About me
A flair for artistry and an intrigue towards science is truly an eccentric concoction, but we find
them teeming in Sonia Sahni, an artist raised in a contemporary Indian family based in
Chandigarh. This dichotomy of fascinations between art and science led her towards Ayurveda,
the area of her Graduation. Quite like a bee flits to nectar, she found herself captivated by the
National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, where she grasped the concepts of
“space design” after which her avidity for doing more and a need to break free of restraints
steered her to commit her entire time to find the mysteries hidden behind every stroke of her
brush…
She has also worked as a senior research fellow at CSIR (IGIB), New Delhi in TRISUTRA
Ayurgenomics project. It was when she started exploring an “abstract expression of scientific
Vedic principles” and truly got in touch with her inventive essence and the equilibrium started
gradually shifting towards the art forms.
This is one of the reasons she believes her art forms are the quintessence of perfect coherence
existing between science, art and mysticism. Her unconscious scribbling led to her making art
pieces that everyone admired and praised and therefore gave her the faith to start a mercantile
project around them.
Her apparatus is simple but effective. The use of acrylics, oil, charcoal, ink, watercolors, and
their variations are what impel her doodles into a new level of artistic appeal. Her art mirrors
her most heartfelt emotions. A stupefying process, wherefrom a fundamental origin, a labyrinth
of designs and patterns emerge. They don’t restrict to simple lines and patterns of black and
white, there are colors of every kind. In a perplexing maze of hues, arises the simplicity of
contrasting outlines, shapes and strokes giving a conclusive structure as a whole. Every stroke
must be explored in depth. She is presently practicing as a visual artist at Triveni Kala Sangam, Tansen Marg, New Delhi.
Art is an art in and of itself, and her canvases usher them to life. One look flings you into a daze of mystification, and you stop to stare.
